Is this the best Aussie Hood video? Decide or make your own
By now you’ve probably seen Bill Nighy as a cornered banker and Ben Kingsley as a frightened suit – both British films about the Robin Hood Tax that have succeeded on YouTube. But what do you think of this little Australian film?
“Good evening,” begins a voiceover.
“It was announced today that bank profits have reached an all-time high. This is despite trillions of dollars of taxpayer bailouts and is in addition to trillions of dollars of executive bonuses. In a related story, poor people remain miserably poor everywhere.”
The film, below, has launched onto YouTube and is by two up and coming Australian film-makers, David Overmars and Julia Roy.
The pair began the film at 7.30pm on a Monday after hearing that ABC TV show Hungry Beast had put a call out for videos debating: ‘What superhero the world needs right now.’ They had the film into the ABC by Tuesday morning.
“It seemed too good an opportunity to highlight the Robin Hood Tax to miss,” said Canadian-born Roy. “And muppets make everything funnier. I make them myself. He’s an Aussie Robin Hood too – the feather in his hat is from a red-tailed black cockatoo (found in the bush, not taken from the bird!).”
Is it the best Australian film you’ve seen about the Robin Hood Tax?
