Billy Bragg speaks up for Robin Hood Tax
Famed British singer Billy Bragg has thrown his clout behind the Robin Hood Tax campaign.
Speaking direct to camera in a new video on YouTube, Bragg talks about the importance of supporting each other in our communities, and of holding the wealthy accountable.
“I think all of us have a responsibility towards one another but those who make huge amounts of money just tweaking numbers on a computer I think more than anybody else should be making a contribution,” Bragg says.
He says the time has come for a concept such as the Robin Hood Tax because ordinary people, now finding themeselves in hard times, are uncomfortable with the giant profits being reaped by the financial sector.
“People are starting to appreciate, because of the economic situation we find ourselves in, how much money is sloshing about in financial transactions every day. People realise that 1 percent of that, taken out and used for some positive causes, could really make a difference.”
