Rapping Robin Hoods roam Perth with Julia Gillard

PERTH: Led by a Julia Gillard look-a-like, a masked group of merry men roamed the streets of Perth last Saturday, rapping on the Robin Hood Tax and handing out information cards.

Just as the G20 meeting took place in Toronto, so the Robin Hood campaigners took their message to the people of Perth. With spray-painted stencils on their clothes and ink stamps on their bodies, the crew posed for photos with passersby and giant Kangaroo statues.

“There is a golden opportunity for the G20 to turn around climate change and solve global poverty in one fell swoop,” said Paddy Cullen, event organiser and Oxfam Australia’s WA Campaign Coordinator.

“There is a growing interest in this tax and we would like Julia Gillard to support the Robin Hood Tax at the next G20 meeting in Seoul.”

The Robin Hood Rap

It’s the Robin – It’s the Robin – It’s the Robin Hood Tax
We’re not robbin’ anyone – we’re giving poverty the axe
Listen up Yo – gonna give you the facts
How to save the world with the Robin Hood Tax
We take a tiny little tax from international transactions
A twentieth of one percent – tiny little fractions
But it all adds up – to hundreds of billions
To solve poverty and climate change – and save the lives of millions
It’s the Robin – It’s the Robin – It’s the Robin Hood Tax
We’re not robbin’ anyone – we’re giving poverty the axe.
